moments. unedited. you know the drill.
All that Emma saw was Regina on the ground, her hand raised above her face in protection, and Zelena reaching forward with a slick grin and needle in her hand.
There are moments in the universe that occur by happenstance.
The collision of stars.
Rain on a day where you need the reminder of what it feels like being touched.
Finding cash in your coat pockets.
And as Emma watched Zelena lean forward, closer, and Regina trying to scramble away from the needle, Emma tried to remember if falling in love with the former queen was by happenstance of if their love story was fated and written in the stars.
She smiled wistfully, picking up her feet in a run.
It felt like years before she reached Regina.
Passing her parents who were reaching out for her to stop.
Passing the man who was meant to be Regina’s true love.
Passing a pirate and passing a bookworm and passing a man with so much darkness in his heart that he fought each day for a simple light.
And then Emma’s eyes connected with Regina’s for the briefest of moments - her blonde hair flowing behind her as she leaped forward.
Emma wondered if she could see the love in her eyes.
Was Emma one of those people?
Who held love in their eyes as if it was a limitless universe?
And Regina’s eyes widen in response and her lips quickly formed words but Emma was so lost in Regina’s eyes that nothing seemed to matter for those moments that her body came down in collision with the queen’s.
And even Zelena’s howl of anger didn’t reach her.
Or the feeling of a needle protruding from the back of her neck.
Emma landed on Regina with a puff of air expelling from her lungs and a lazy smile on her lips and soft words reaching out to caress Regina’s chin, “There, she can’t get you now.”
And then, Emma fell into a deep, deep, peaceful sleep.
